K-Swap BMW 2002 Support - Official Release
It has been a few years since we completed our first K-swapped BMW 2002. From the beginning, we said we would eventually formalize this into a real, supported offering - but like most things at 22RPD, proper development took priority over rushing something out the door. Between customer projects, R&D, and expanding our in-house manufacturing capabilities, this one sat longer than planned.
That changes now.
We are officially releasing our K-Swap 2002 engine arms and mounts , designed to make the Honda K-series feel like it truly belongs in the 2002 chassis. Fitment is clean, geometry is intentional, and the install follows a logical, serviceable path. This is not a novelty swap - it is a well-balanced, well-engineered solution that pairs extremely well with the character of the 2002.
Why the K-Series Works So Well in the 2002
The Honda K-series is well known for a reason: it is reliable, it is easy to service, and it rewards you when you lean on it. These engines rev cleanly, make strong power without drama, and have a huge ecosystem of proven parts and knowledge behind them.
In a 2002, that matters. This is a four-cylinder chassis, and keeping it a four-cylinder keeps the car honest. You get modern Honda reliability and four-cylinder balance in a lightweight, maintainable system that fits the bay well and feels like it belongs there. The end result is a potent combination that retains the character of the 2002 while adding a modern powerplant you can confidently drive, service, and support long-term.
What Makes This Swap Different
Our approach keeps what already works.
In the coming weeks, we will also be releasing in-house machined flywheels designed to work with the BMW 2002 applicable 4-speed and 5-speed transmissions. These flywheels use standard 228mm pressure plate options and are designed as a fully rebuildable assembly, featuring a replaceable steel wear surface paired with a billet aluminum flywheel body.
This allows the swap to retain:
- Factory driveshaft
- Factory transmission
- Factory slave cylinder
- Factory shift linkage
- Factory pressure plates
The result is a drivetrain that feels OEM in operation, but delivers 230+ wheel horsepower from a modern, reliable K-series engine. Everything we offer is designed and manufactured in the USA.
Available Configurations
We will be offering the system in multiple trims depending on how complete of a solution you are looking for:
- Engine arms only
- Engine arms + transmission adapter + flywheel
- Complete drop-in package: engine arms, transmission adapter, flywheel, Sachs clutch disc, and Sachs pressure plate
Some installation and fabrication effort is required, but the goal is simple: a clean, well-supported swap that does not reinvent parts of the car that already work well.
Future Development: Equal-Length Headers
If demand is there, we are also open to developing equal-length 4-into-1 headers specifically designed for the factory K-swap 2002 configuration. This would be a purpose-built header with proper clearance, geometry, and fitment - no compromises.
Header development requires dedicated fixturing and setup time, so we would need a minimum of a few committed customers to make it worthwhile. If this is something you would be interested in, please connect with us here and let us know.
Full Build and Development Support
If you are interested in having this work done end-to-end, you can reach out to us directly.
We are happy to take on full K-swap 2002 builds, including:
- Complete engine and drivetrain integration
- Full wiring (NA or turbo)
- ECU setup and tuning
- Custom fabrication and finishing
Whether you are looking for a clean naturally aspirated build or something more aggressive, we are open to developing, wiring, tuning, and finishing solutions that match your goals.
This has been a long time coming - and we are excited to finally put a properly engineered K-swap solution for the BMW 2002 out into the world.
